Thank you for contributing to the Yarning About Quitting eLearning Module.
We want to share reflections related to smoking and vaping from both staff and families who use our services.
We’re looking for a quick 30 second audio snippet that may include:
- how staff have made people feel culturally safe;
- how families were made to feel comfortable to share and discuss their smoking or vaping habits;
- whether families were happy to be asked about smoking and vaping and how families felt about the supports health staff offer;
- success stories of supporting families to quit smoking or vaping;
- common challenges and myths;
- any other information that you think will be helpful to staff completing the module.
- Find a quiet location with a table and chair that doesn’t have a noticeable echo.
- Sit at the table and place your phone near the edge closest to you.
- Open your phone’s voice recorder app and press record when ready.
- After pressing record wait a few seconds and keep your body still to avoid any background noise.
- Speak clearly in your normal conversational voice. Try to keep the duration to 30 seconds.
- Wait a few seconds after you’ve finished talking before pressing the stop recording button.
- Record at the highest quality your phone allows.
If using an iPhone: once you’ve finished recording in the voice memo app click on the blue circle with three dots inside it, then select ‘Save to Files’ and save the file where you’ll be able to easily access it.
If using an Android: once you’ve finished recording in the voice recorder app your file will automatically be saved wherever your phone saves files by default (each Android manufacturer is slightly different).
Location: Try to find somewhere that has a plain wall to use as a backdrop if possible.
Lighting: Try to find somewhere with bright front facing or bright ambient lighting. Try to avoid direct downlighting that causes shadows on your face.
Pose: Stand straight on and look directly into the camera. Your facial expression should appear happy, welcoming and not concerned or too serious. It’s up to you if you’d like to smile showing teeth.
Camera Position: The camera should be positioned facing directly at you and at a height that you can look directly into. Position the camera in a portrait orientation so that there is a small amount of space above and to the sides of your head and can see just below your chest without any zoom.
Settings: Take the photo at the highest resolution your camera or phone has.
All voice recordings and photos submitted will be kept private and confidential and are only to be used on the Yarning About Quitting eLearning module. Photos are optional and names will not be published.
When you’re ready to share your audio clip and optional photo with us please complete the form below.
